Hello {{first_name}}

When I worked as a recruiter at the Government of Canada, I noticed one thing.

The people who messaged me before they applied always stood out.

Their name was in my head before I even opened their resume.

They moved to the top of the pile. Every time.

Most job seekers skip this step. That is why they apply, wait for weeks, and hear nothing.

Here is the exact 3-step move I tell every mentee to use.

Step 1: Find the role

Pick the jobs you actually want. Make a list of the job openings.

Step 2: Find the person

Go to the company page on LinkedIn. Find the hiring manager or recruiter for that team.

Step 3: Send the message before you apply

Use this reachout message template to reach out first. Keep it short and human. Then apply.

“Hello Name, I see that you are working as a Job Title, that is commendable!!!
My Skill #1 and Skill #2 expertise aligns with your company's requirements. Would you be open to helping me be part of your team?”

That is the whole move. Find the role. Find the person. Reach out first.

One mentee sent this exact message and had an interview booked before her application was even reviewed.

According to LinkedIn, referred candidates are 4x more likely to get hired than cold applicants.
