Hello {{first_name}}

When I was working as a recruiter, I noticed something every year.

August looked quiet. Everyone assumed hiring slowed down for summer.

But behind the scenes, budgets were allocated. Recruiters were clearing backlogs. And the loudest hiring push of the year was about to start.

Most job seekers miss this window because they are waiting for September to "get serious."

Here is what is actually happening right now, and what to do about it.

  1. The Budget Clock

Many companies lock next year's budget in September. Managers rush to fill headcount in August, before it gets frozen or reallocated.

  1. The Recruiter Backlog

Recruiters take vacation in July. By August, they are back at their desks, clearing weeks of applications that piled up while they were away.

  1. Ghost Jobs Disappear

Summer postings are full of listings nobody plans to fill. In August, real postings return because teams need people back at work.

  1. The Rehire Wave

Every June, students and interns leave their roles. Companies limp along in July, then repost those same roles in August.

What to do about it:

  • Apply within 48 hours of a posting going live. After that, recruiters have already shortlisted their first 10.

  • Turn on job alerts. Do not just browse job boards once a week.

  • Fix the basics before touching your resume. Is your LinkedIn "Open to Work" visible to recruiters, not just your network?

Most people wait until September. That is exactly why August has less competition for the same roles.
