MPM Minute: How to Build a Winning Resume
Your resume looks like everyone else's.
No numbers. Generic bullets. Skills listed at the bottom.
According to Ladders, Recruiters spend 7 seconds on it and move on.
Here's the exact format that works.
The 4-Part Winning Resume Formula:
1. Action Verbs
✅ Use strong verbs from Harvard's action verb list.
Examples: Led, Optimized, Developed, Streamlined.
❌ Don't write "Responsible for." Write "Led a team of 5 to..."
2. Hard Skills
Don't just list tools at the bottom. Show how you used them.
❌ Bad: "Skills: SAP, Power BI, Tableau"
✅ Good: "Used Power BI to analyze sales data and improve forecasting accuracy by 18%"
3. Impact Metrics
Every bullet needs a number. It builds trust and shows real impact.
Examples:
"Improved training process by 25%"
"Enhanced recruitment efficiency by 28%"
"Increased UX satisfaction by 32%"
4. Soft Skills
Statements that prove collaboration, communication, and leadership.
Example: "Collaborated with cross-functional teams to deliver project 2 weeks ahead of schedule"
